Ephraim was old. 110, if you believed Carl German, and Carl was provably 95 this May.
"Them Oates! Oh they made a wicked deal, got them the lives of three lesser men." Carl told a visitor to his store.
At 110, Ephraim was not the longest-lived Oates. That would be his great grandmother Millicent Barnes-Oates, who lived to be 117.
Ephraim was twice a widower. His third wife was still alive and the primary suspect in Ephraim's disappearance and murder.
Mayim Oates was 29 and spoke no english.

If there's anything the last 200 years of American history has taught us is this: Causes are what's ripping America apart.
